Chapter 14
Resources and Reference
This is the conclusion of the Adoption Education sessions. Of course, it is not the end of our contact with you. We hope that you will continue researching, discussing and learning about adoption. We know that this preparation course is not all inclusive. That is one reason why we have this last chapter. It will provide you with some reference material to continue on your own. It was our goal to familiarize you with some topics in adoption and parenting. You have probably discovered that there are special issues pertinent to adoption. Being informed will help you meet the challenges these issues bring. Sensitive, knowledgeable and consistent parenting is the central component to success. There are many ways to get more information. This chapter will supply some resources. We do not endorse these resources but provide them for you as a place to start. Some of the citations are not complete but should give you enough information to find the source. Internet URLs change so you may find that one of the internet addresses is no longer available or has changed. Please keep in mind that while enormously helpful, the internet can be inaccurate and full of rumors. Double check the information you receive especially if it seems dubious. The internet is largely unregulated and allows people to post anonymously which also means they are not accountable for their posting.
At the end of this chapter is a certificate for you to print out, sign and send to Commonwealth. Please send two copies. We will keep a copy in your file to certify that you have participated in our training.
We look forward to receiving your certificates and to continuing our work together as you expand your family through adoption.
